Children are not miniature adults and deserve to have a treatment designed for them, not shrunken adult therapy. When treating children, it is important to be developmentally sensitive to ensure the treatment is calibrated to the child’s developmental level. A mismatch in ability can cause the best treatment modality to fail. EMDR is no different; by using a combination of Play Therapy and remaining true to the EMDR process, clinicians can become proficient in meeting the needs of young clients.
Waldo is a Registered Play Therapist and EMDR Consultant in Training. When entering into EMDRIA-approved consultation, you will be exposed to a fully integrated approach to EMDR that is effective with children, teens, and adults. Waldo uses techniques from the world of play and integrates the phases of EMDR seamlessly.
Waldo is aware of many clinicians who have trained in EMDR but are hesitant to use it with clients as they are either rusty or never felt fully confident in the process. Waldo has developed a game-like training tool to guide you in becoming familiar with the process that can also be used directly with working with your clients, turning practice into real-world applications. By scheduling two consultations, we will snail mail you the tool to learn with and use free of charge.
